Star Nation

Those up above looked down, trying to make out the smallest one on earth. The little one lay sleeping under a cabbage leaf in the corner of the garden. She was the special one. It was not yet time for her to shine, so she remained in the shadows, untouched by starlight. Soon it would be time and the rays would strike, illuminating her little body and lighting up the world. Until then, she lay hidden, protected by her leaf.

Star mother started to shine for another night. She had so much love to give; it was painful. All that energy was too much for one person. How would it end? She began to shine brighter with the thought of the little one. One touch of her rays and the future would be secured; the flame would be passed and she could rest.

But could such a small body contain so much energy? What if it was too much and she lit up like a supernova, burning out and disappearing into a black hole? What if? What if? Nothing was certain except that her destiny was written in the stars and no one, not even star mother, could keep star baby from taking her place in the heavens and shining her own bright light onto the world below.

Star mother knew she had to let go, but it was so hard. The world was a big place and the universe was even bigger. The little one would never be ready. She needed protection. She needed to know that she was protected. She needed protection from what was outside and from what was inside. Star mother knew best.

But did she? Sometimes the little one was just too hot to handle. An ancient flamed burned within her that seemed to have been there since the dawn of time. Way before star mother and even star mother’s mother. Where had this flame come from? The star people knew, but they weren’t telling. The flame that burned within each of them was what made the star nation and it was a closely guarded secret. Once star mother found the source of the flame, she would be able to let go; safe in the knowledge that the little one would be all right.

Star mother looked deep inside herself for the answer, so deep that it became difficult to know if she was looking in, or looking out. Then she looked even deeper. She began to discern a small flame within herself that began to slowly grow in size and intensity until it engulfed her whole body. With such a bright light she could see the whole world clearly. She saw that the cabbage leaf was an illusion. It appeared to be offering protection, but it was really a barrier. With this knowledge, the cabbage leaf began to dissolve and the little one was drawn into the warm loving glow of star mother’s light and they became one.
